Large Cutting Board - 12"x16"

One of my favorite things about my products is that they are intended to be used. I made a couple of these cutting boards for a friend for Christmas presents last year, and she tells me that the people she gave them to are afraid to use them because they just LOOK SO NICE! So SAD! Use them, folks. So long as you cut along the grain, and oil them occasionally, they can keep looking nice for a long, long time. And they're more sanitary than plastic, not requiring high-temperature sanitization. Bacteria is sucked down into the wood where it starves, rather than festering in the grooves that inevitably form in plastic boards.

At 12 inches by 16 inches, this size is perfect for heavy use on large for-the-family sized meals. Order from domestics (walnut, maple, cherry, mahogany), or add some exotics (purpleheart, yellowheart, bloodwood) in for some stunning color. Add a hand-burned name like in the example shown, or a drip groove around the edge on one side, or a handle on one end - just let me know if you want a combination not shown on the drop-down. The image shown is the exotics option with a woodburned name.

Sliding Lid Gift Box - 3.5"x5"x3" - with Sego Lily Pyrography

This sliding-lid box is made from walnut and maple, with a sego lily burned into the top. I made this for my wife for Mothers Day this year. This box measures about 5 inches by 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches high. The sego lily has particular significance to my wife - she has pioneer ancestry, some of whom may have depended at least in part on the bulbs of this flower for sustenance during the first hard winters in Utah.

The possibilities for these boxes are endless. I used finger joints on this box. Splines, or keyed miters also work well. The sliding lid can be replaced by a solid lid with sides that lifts off, or with a hinged and latched top. I can use really any wood commercially available - save money by using domestic softwoods, or go all out on exotic hardwoods. And I can burn into it just about anything you can give me a line drawing of. Email me with your ideas for a custom quote. If you want something similar to my wife's box, it will be $45.00.

Bar Board - Wood Cutting Board with Tomato Recess

These "Bar Board" cutting boards are the same size as the popular "Pampered Chef" brand bar board, 6"x8". They make the perfect gift for the cook in your life - sized for convenience of use and storage, they're perfect for every-day small cutting jobs, but unlike plastic cutting boards, these are solid hardwood, with the safety and elegance that comes with that. Research has shown that plastic cutting boards, though easily cleaned when new, become harbors for bacteria once they develop scarring, while wood cutting boards draw the bacteria inside where it dies, and stay safe for years, despite grooves and scarring.

In addition to being preferable from a safety standpoint, these cutting boards are just plain awesome. Choose from domestic or exotic woods for a single-piece board (yellowheart and purpleheart are shown here) or from a hodge-podge of contrasting colors laminated to give a striking look like those boards above.

Care is simple - hand-wash with warm soapy water and rinse. Oil with mineral oil monthly. Cut in the direction of the wood grain. Sand away stains if they develop. Follow these instructions and you'll have a beautiful cutting board for years. Everyone always wants to give a gift that "keeps on giving" - with one of these, that is really true.

Walnut LDS Consecrated Oil Vial Keychain

These consecrated oil vials are available as a keyring like that shown, or on a black silk laniard to wear as a pendant. With natural hardwoods finished to a nice sheen, and gold plated components, each is a unique and practical work of art.

The second vial is a unique piece showing the lighter sapwood and the darker heartwood. I love working with walnut because of the rich hues and the smooth shiny finish that is so rewarding for a job well done. Walnut wood is hard, dense, tight-grained. Cutting it on the lathe is like carving really hard chocolate. It smells kind of sour when cut - I guess that keeps me from wanting to put the shavings on my ice cream... This piece shows both the lighter sapwood and the normal dark heartwood. Walnut has long been a favorite for gun stocks, and also popular for guitar bodies.
