Wood Keyring Toothpick or Needle Holder

Sized to hold toothpicks or needles, this turned wood keyring above is made from 10k gold-plated parts and Padauk. Other hardwoods are available, as they're made to order. Woods on the right include African Blackwood and Canarywood.

I love turning wood with Padauk, and this photo is a good example why - the wood is violently red-orange when cut, and it finished up so shiny. It has a lot of character. Padauk is a large tree reaching diameters as large as 45". Heights of 130' are not uncommon. Heartwood varies from yellow to brick red, but most commonly seen in a dark red-orange. Incidentally, some Padauk's are also used for an herbal medicine for treating skin parasites or fungal infection. Read more about Blackwood or Canarywood or other woods you can choose here. Also, please specify whether you would like chrome or gold plated parts.

Keyring Essential Oil Vial - Cocobolo and Gold

This keyring oil vial is made from 10-k gold-plated components and cocobolo. Inside is a glass vial that can hold essential oils, perfume, cologne, or consecrated oil.

Cocobolo is a medium sized Central American tree growing up to 2' diameter and 90' tall. The heartwood is typically orange or reddish-brown in color, often with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood, while the sapwood is a creamy yellow, contrasting sharply with the heartwood. Its fine texture and excellent color make Cocobolo one of the most popular exotic woods. Grows along Pacific seaboard of Mexico and Central America. Considered one of the most important woods in cutlery business for knife handles (can be soaked in soapy water with minimal ill effects). Also used for tool handles, brush backs, bowling balls, chess pieces, carving, jewelry boxes, canes, utensils, buttons, musical and scientific instruments, especially guitars and basses, but some woodwind instruments such as clarinets and oboes have been successfully made using cocobolo instead of the more usual African blackwood. It is also used in making luxury pens, and decorative veneer and inlay.

Padauk and Gold Consecrated Oil Vial

These LDS Consecrated Oil Keyring Vials are made from 10k gold-plated parts and Padauk. They're unique, handmade, a perfect gift for any Elder, whether dad for Fathers Day, brother for Mission Farewell, or a son for his ordination to the priesthood.

Call me crazy, but I DON'T think it will influence the efficacy of the oil you keep in the vial though.

Wood Keyring Consecrated Oil Vial - Purpleheart and Chrome

A great gift for Fathers Day, for missionaries, or newly ordained Elders, or any Melchizedek priesthood holder for that matter, wood consecrated oil vials for keychains can be made from any commercially available pen blank material or hardwood. Keep it on your keychain or use a silk laniard provided - this tiny vial is a perfect way to send off your missionary with something personal that he can keep with him all the time. Hand-turned and made individually, you tell me what you want it to look like, choose the wood, and I do the rest.

Purpleheart, also sometimes called amaranth or violet wood, comes from several species of tropical trees native to Central and South America. The heartwood is a light purple when cut, and darkens upon exposure to sunlight, reaching first a darker purple and eventually a brown with a purple cast. It is hard and strong, and takes attention when turning, requiring sharp tools, gentle cuts, and careful sanding. The vial shown above was made with chrome components. Price: $25.00

Looking for the perfect Father's Day gift for an LDS Dad? These keyring consecrated oil vials are each handmade and totally unique. Inside is a glass vial to hold the oil, or cologne or essential oils or whatever else you like.

This vial is hand-turned from African Zebrawood. Also called Zebrano, African zebrawood trees can reach in excess of 150'. Diameters commonly measure between 5' and 7'. Heartwood is light golden-yellow with streaks and veining of dark chocolate brown. Dries slowly, and tends to surface check and end-split during seasoning. Coarse texture and interlocked grain must be surfaced wih care. High-luster finish on this wood makes it extremely decorative.

Ambrosia Maple and Gold Keyring LDS Oil Vial

Looking for a consecrated oil vial that isn't mass-produced stamped from metal and manufactured by machine? The personal nature of these vials I make gives them special meaning, especially as gifts to new elders, departing missionaries, or as Fathers' Day gifts.

These oil vials are made with ambrosia maple and 10k gold-plated parts. Inside is a glass vial that can just as easily hold perfume or essential oils. Ambrosia refers to the fungus that causes the black streaks. It's introduced by beetles that cary the spores with them. They burrow in to dead maple trees, lay eggs, and leave, and the spores they leave behind begin to break down the walls of the hole into food the larvae can eat. When they grow up and leave, they take the spores with them. The fungus only exists in symbiosis with the beetles, and the beetles can't live without the fungus. Cool stuff. The resulting staining pattern in the maple is distinct, dramatic, and beautiful.

Cocobolo and Chrome Consecrated Oil Vial Keyring

This vial was made for a customer to use for consecrated oil, and is made from Cocobolo, with chrome components. The hourglass shape was chosen because it feels as slight in the pocket as a straight profile, but highlighted the diagonal grain.

This second vial shows a more typical piece of cocobolo - dark, attractive grain, but without the sapwood.

Cocobolo is a medium sized South American tree growing up to 2' diameter and 90' tall, heartwood color varies from bright orange to deep red, with attractive varied stripes of yellow, orange and black. Darkens on exposure. Its fine texture and excellent color make Cocobolo one of the most popular exotic woods, and I can see why - I love working with it. It takes a finish so well, it cuts so smoothly, it's really choice.

Normally I charge $25 for these keyring oil vials, whether gold or chrome, and no matter the wood. For the first one, I paid extra attention to it, working with the customer to select the wood from several pieces, selecting the shape, etc. to make it intensely personal so it was extra. One touch was selecting a piece of cocobolo with the sapwood (whiter wood) which is sometimes hard to do.

Purpleheart Goblet Set

This matching set of purpleheart goblets was made as a gift for a wedding shower. They're small because solid purpleheart is only available in thicknesses up to 2" thick - 6" high total. But the wood makes them awesome, and as my MIL put it, it's nice to have wood goblets with you because you don't have to worry about them shattering in your luggage...

Purpleheart, also sometimes called amaranth or violet wood, comes from several species of tropical trees native to Central and South America. The heartwood is a light purple when cut, and darkens upon exposure to sunlight, reaching first a darker purple and eventually a brown with a purple cast. It is hard and strong, and takes attention when turning, requiring sharp tools, gentle cuts, and a LOT of sanding.

The finish is mineral oil and beeswax, and is replenished by rubbing in more mineral oil, and won't change the flavor of your drink.

Sold individually for $40 at this size, the set is $70.00
